PC with a blind eye?

I have a networked pc (network is NT, OS is win98se)that will not log onto the network per se. I can ping it, get access to the internet but it will not log onto the server or map any drive back to it. I have installed a new nic card, tested the cable, pulled a new cable from the switch to that pc and still no luck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
