Peer to Peer problem

I have two workstations setup peer to peer…One is windows98 other Win Me…They both are running tcp-ip and are sharing files between them….When I open a word document file from my Windows Me on my 98 machine the files opens fairly fast…a 21k file takes 1-3 seconds….Vice Versa it takes about 10 seconds….The file locally opens fine…I have replaced the Nic and Cable and problem still exists…Any idea’s would be appreciated…Thank You
