pipe an audio card stream to std input

Hi, I would like to use batch to control audio recordings, so I need to pipe audio card output to std in of executable programs. Can this be done? Alse how can the mixer settings be controlled at the batch or script level ? (Window 98 SE or NT4SP6).Thanks. Mike
