Primary Master HDD error

I keep getting the error message “Primary master HDD error” along with secondary error “ATAPI incompatible” then you have to hit f1 and it looks for the boot on floppy, cd and hd, but does not find it, so you have to restart again and the primary hdd error comes up again and you have to reboot and then it will finanlly start Windows. This is every time. I have tried different hd’s, and os, and cd drives, but it still does it. Can anyone help?
