printer port

In my PC on board printer port is faulty.I would like to add
a printer card or SID card.There is no option to to
disable the onboard port thro’ setup and I don’t have
the mother board manual also.Is it neccessary to disable
faulty port???I’ve not done this earliear.Pls send me your
precious advices…
