Printing to a W98 printer from NT4

I have a perplexing situation. I have a Printer shared from a Windows 98 PC which is part of a workgroup at a small remote site, an NT4 server at another site needs to be able to print to that printer. So far I have configured the NT4 server to print to the unc of the printer and it’s good thus far. The problem is not that it doesn’t print at all, but the data arrives to the Win98 print queue very slowly. The two sites are linked via 256k frame, it’s not a WAN link speed issue, other network printers are fine. Is it to do with domain / workgroup security.
