Problem with Backpack CD ReWriter

I have a Backpack CD ReWriter. Every time I try to copy a music CD, or a variety of different software (data), I get an error right before it finishes that says “error with the output device.” I am able to copy small data CD’s without any problems. My operating system is Windows 98, and my hardware is a Compaq 7400 laptop.
