Protocol number 1 Error

by digital_dna . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

Hey People,

Got a little problem with a friend?s computer. He’s getting the following Microsoft Networking Error:

?Error occurred while loading protocol number 1, Error 38–The computer name you specified is already in use on the network. Tospecify a different name, double-click the Network icon in Control Panel?.

The error started to appear after installing a network card and a DSL external modem. The computer isn’t connected to a network (other than the internet, of course). Itried to remove the Network Entry’s in Network Neighborhood and also tried to rename as suggested by the error, but there is no option to delete and renaming only caused a new error (same as the first except “Protocol number 2). How do I get rid ofthe entry’s there?

Thanks
