Protocols

Hello everybody. My name is Vincent de Winter and I am an Account manager within the IT business. My problems is that I come from a recruitment company in which technical know-how wasn’t the most impotant issue, therefore my network basics are not that good and now I’ve ended up in projects relatd to performance monitoring and service level management. My question is:
Where can I go to get some useful and detailed information about protocols like ICMP, SNMP, SQL Query, SSL and PPTP?
Any help would be much appreciated.
