Reboots when trying to use firewire dev.

My system reboots when trying to use a firewire device. Running XP Pro on an Athlon 650 system with 384 MB of ram. System is built on a Gigabyte GA7IX mainboard. Recognizes firewire device when connected, but when trying to use device system reboots. All drivers are the latest available.
