Reentrant Assert Error

After installing Microprose, Mech Commander ver. ,then trying to access and play the game I get the error. Reentrant Assert Error. Can anyone tell me what this error is and why I am recieving it. Also how to fix this problem. I am running Win98 2nd edition. I also have thr proper version of DirectX, it asks for ver 5.0– am running ver 7.0.
