Removing “My Computer” window @ boot up

I’m experiencing a problem with the unwanted appearance of the “My Computer” window which overlays the desk top every time my HP Pavilion computer boots up. Operating system is Windows 98 SE. Reason for this recent phenomenon is unknown to me.
I suspect that a solution for this problem is simple; nevertheless it eludes me.
