Repeating Sound

I have a cmedia CMI8738 Sound card running on Windows ME. When I use sound with some apps I get a repeat of a not. As an example the windows Chime sound just constantly repeats the not over and over at a fast pace. When using sound from a cd or aprogram such as Shockwave, it comes out perfect. There are no conflicts showing. What could be causing this?
