Restoring multiple fileXXXX.chk…

I’m sorry to ask a Q that has allready been (mostly) answered, but it didn’t really give me the info I needed… One of my Hd’s just crashed, giving me over 1500 fileXXXX.chk…
I don’t have a backup of the files (though from now on I will!), and I’d really like to get them back… About 1k of them are .gif’s, but some of them are .exe and other files…

So what I was wondering about is if there is a program that will restore the files (I guess you can understand that there is no way I can do this manually)? I don’t need the exact names of the files, but if it would check if it was a .gif, and then recreate it as a .gif file with a name from 1 and upwards, and the same with an exec and .zip…
