RTF Conversion to Word & Applying Styles

A formatted Word Perfect document was converted to .rtf and then to Word 2000 – a .doc file.

Additional lines show up. When I turn on the formatting symbols, a paragraph sign appears. Sometimes when I remove them, then I can correct the line spacing. However, sometimes when I remove them, it moves the whole document up to where the paragraph sign is and will not allow me to place the next paragraph in the proper location.

I would appreciate any help you can give me.
