save password

when i open the dial up networking box for my internet connection the user name and phone number boxes are already filled in, but the password box is empty, (the save password tick box is greyed out),but even after i have typed the password in the save password tick box is still greyed out and i can’t save my password. why? and how can i make it save my password!?
