Setting Up a VPN with NT 4 and a netpia

by swkent . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

Here is my situation. I am connected to the internet via 384K DSL through a netopia router. I have an NT 4 stand alone server with PPTP and VPN ports set up on it. I am using RRAS although I am not very familiar with routing. The way I see it, I have two options, I can configure either my router or the stand alone server to accept the VPN connections. When I had the server set up to accept them, I kept getting an error saying that my username and/or password is in valid on the domain. I now have the router set up to accept VPN connections. When I try to log on, after verifying the username and password, I get errors connecting to the mapped network drives. After this, I cannot see anything in network neighborhood.
I am trying to connect through Win98 with a 56K modem. Do I need to assign a static IP to the client? If so, where? In the protocol itself or in the DUN client? I have never done anything like this before, so the more specific the info, the better. Thank you.

Steve
