SLOW after gateway installation!

I have 2 Netvista IBM 6823 Desktops. Recently a gateway was installed in order for both computers to have access to high speed internet supplied by Sympatico. My ISP is Primus and both computers use Outlook Express & Internet Explorer. My MTU=1492 but my host computer is now extremely slow. Any suggestions?
