SLOW COMPUTERS

We use Windows NT 4.0 and Netware 5.0. Periodically the computers stall. Someone mention to me to have everyone in the office remove their color pattern desktop wall paper. They indicated this uses up memory. I am reluctant to recommend the employees remove their desktop wall paper until I verify if this is true. Any thouhgts??
