Slow on LAN after dialup Internet Setup

We have a UNIX server on the LAN with ip of 192.168.0.2 and purchased a new XP Professional pc with ip of 192.168.0.30. We use ICE.TCP emulation software to establish a Telnet session to the UNIX server. This was coming up instantly when clicking onthe icon to connect.

Then a dialup Internet connection was configured and ever since doing that, when clicking on the UNIX emulation icon, it now takes about 3 minutes before a connection is established. How can this be fixed?
