Socket 7 CPU – where is it HEADING?

Socket 7 CPU, has it reaches the end of their runway? I see that the only CPU – the AMD K6/2 500 has arruptedly or systematically or sequentially or naturally been made obselette? Would you dare to venture to think about the source for socket 7 MBshould one of the millions or trillions goes faulty? – would upgrade the entire MB and CPU be the only answer?
