Sony crdw vs. Dell Optiplex

I have a dell optiplex gx240 with a cd-rom, and I installed a cdrw. The cdrw is a sony, and for some reason, the two do not get along very well. When the cdrw is plugged in, Whether by itself, or as a master or a slave to the original cd-rom, NEITHER drive is recognized! I went to dell.com, and they had a new driver for the computer to support this particular cdrw, but when I install it and reboot, I get an alert saying that windows has detected a corrupt driver, and is deleting it. Any I-deers?
