SQL Server Backup Fails

URGENT Help Required

I have a COMPAQ Proliant 1600 box with 4/8 GB DAT drive running MS SQL 7.0

Until few days back, I only had one user database to be backed up. I added one more and when I try to append both backups onto a single tape, I getthe following errors:

1. Source:Kernel
Message: BackupTapeFile::SkipFileMark::SetTapePosition failure on backup device ‘\\. \Tape0’. Operating system error 23(Data error (cyclic redundancy check))

2. Source:Kernel
Message:
BackupTapeFile::ConfigureTape:GetTapeParameters(GET_TAPE_DRIVE_INFORMATION) failure on backup device ‘\\. \Tape0.’ Operating system error 23(Data error (cyclic redundancy check)).

Currently I’m running the risk of not backing up the databases on a regular basis.
Help appreciated.
