Strange error message when exiting a wor

I have a bit of an interesting problem. One of my users (Dell PC running Windows 95 and Office 97) is experiencing difficulties when opening a document attachment in Outlook. When he double clicks on the document, word opens (not the document though) and the PC crashes. I had him forward the document to me and I could open the document with no problems but when exiting, a message came up saying “Word could not fire event.” I am not sure if this is what is causing the problems with my user. I would like to know what this message means. I thank you for your help!
