Strange error with CD-ROM

Lately I have been finding a variety of people who have this strange problem with their CD-ROM. When they insert a CD that is strictly a data CD, it brings up their audio player. then when they check their CD through windows explorer, the CD seemsto only contain ‘track01.cda’ and nothing else.
This has occured on both Win98 and 95. It has occured with a few different brands of CD-ROMS, and with a variety of data CD’s.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
