Stuttering (choppy) sound playback.

My PC just recently began stuttering all sound playback. The sound card is a Creative Sound Blaster PCI 128. I’ve reinstalled the drivers, run through all the multimedia properties (all appears funtioning normal)and run all necessary diagnostics.Any expert knowledge one could pass my way to help resolve this issuewould be greatly appreciated!
