Synchronizing laptops to desktops

Greetings all. I was wondering what others are using to let workstation users to bring their laptop in and sync up with their desktop. As we see more and more employees get laptops to take home or on the road to get their mail, surf, work, etc. we are getting more requests for this. We tried Intellisync which is the biggest nightmare I have ever used. The only mode it supports in Win2k is the serial port- which doesnt work well at all.
Any ideas welcome- need to sync Outlk2k and soem files between win98/win98 and winme/win2k
