system freeze (Athlon T-bird)

My pc will freeze when it sits at the desktop, sometimes in minutes or up to hours. It will also freeze when I copy cd to cd. I have swapped ram, hard drives and all other components. I am running an AMD 950 t-bird w/ 512 mb ram, 64 mb geforce 2 gts, 300 watt ps, the motherboard was bundled w/ the processor and a fan. I have played with every bios setting imaginable (at least the ones i understand). My system is running 1.70 volts, system temp is 70f and cpu temp will run about 98-108. My only other theory is my motherboard is failing or it is overheating. Any suggestions. Thank You.
