System Freezes

On my Athlon 900, I’ve had two Operating Systems thus far, Win 2000 Pro and now Microsoft XP. The problem I’m having is that every time I try to run a game that requires any serious power (like Max Payne, or Mech Warrior 4 my system freezes). I used to think the problem lay with the fact that Windows 2000 Pro wasn’t very game-friendly. Once I installed XP, I’ve been able to play a larger variety of games, but the juicier games still end up freezing on me. My Display Adapter is a NVIDIA Riva2 TNT 2. If any one has had any problems similar to this or has any knowledge on how to trouble shoot it, I would be in your debt.
