Systray.exe and volume control errors

I had to FDISK my Compaq Presario 5284 and I couldnt find my recovery disk so I used another copy I have of Windows98 second edition. Now I am getting systray.exe errors and my volume control stays at the bottom and everytime I try to increase it itgoes back down to zero?? I know Compaq is proprietary but there has to be a fix for this? I have tried downloading the audio drivers and system drivers from Compaq to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
