Trace Route dead?

Here’s the deal. I have a system which i put a fresh install of Win98SE on, then ran an XP Pro upgrade. Everything seems tip-top… at first. But now ive noticed that if i run trace route from DOS (tracert), it times out after the first line, freezes and then gives me a BSOD! Im on a DSL connection and had not had this problem before. The time outs happen when running tracert on any site, at any time of the day and whether its by IP or URL. Any ideas?
