Tracking hours in Excel 97

I want to show a ‘live’ running total of hours between two specific dates and times of day. For instance, I am beginning an assignment at 12 noon on 12/1/02 and the deadline is 4pm on 12/6/02. I want a countdown of hours to display on the spreadsheet. Please help.
