Transfer files from Desktop to Laptop

(1)What is the fastest/easiest way to transfer large amounts of files from my Desktop w/XP to Laptop w/ME? Both have parallel ports. Both have USB ports. Both have ECP access. (1a)Will my IOMEGA ZIP Drive cable (25db male to 25 db male) work as DCCcable?
