We’re in the process of trying out W2K on a few machines to test compatability with our corporate setup. I had been running Win2000 and Office2000 for about a month on one machine with no major errors. I shut it down at the end of the day and when Ireturned in the morning the machine would not boot. It ran chkdsk and then froze during the reboot. I could not boot regardless of what startup options I tried. Even booting from W2K CD and repairing didn’t work. Finally after trying to boot in Repair Directory mode(and failing) I was able to boot from CD and repair enough to boot Windows and recover my data but I ran into errors(could not contact MS Exchange server). Tried reinstalling Office2000 to no avail and had to format the drive and start over to get everything back. I had full network connection complete with proxy server to the itnernet, but no Exchange server. Has this happened to anyone else? What causes it? How can I prevent it?
