Uninstalling programs in Win 2000

I have a problem with uninstalling Office 97 from Windows 2000.
When I try to remove a program i initially get the following error message
‘Setup has encountered an error in the registration database…’
it then lets me go a go a bot further, then the program stops responding on the error message:
‘Failed to unregister.SRG file…’

Any help would be gratefully received
