Unix AIX4.3 NIC Card Addressing

by rnrruss . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

I have an IBM6000 running Unix AIX 4.3.
I have two NIC cards, one NIC to a IBM Router then to a DSU/CSU for 56K dedicated connection to the internet, the other NIC is to a hub on a NT 4.0 Lan.
The internet NIC has public ip address with the gateway being the ip number of the router which is also public address. The LAN NIC has a private ip address and I want it’s gateway to be that of the NT Server’s private ip addressed NIC. Unix will not allow me to have separate gateway addresses!!! When Ienter the gateway on one NIC, both NICs get this address. This is not an unusual topology, so why can I not have the gateways of the two NICs different? When only using one NIC seperately the connections works just fine. I need specific direction tocorrect my problem, not general thoughts on the issues, please. Thanks in advance.
