USB IDE-interface not working

The computer in question is: Compaq Armada E 500. Trying to use a external IDE harddisk via a USB-IDE interface, it doesn’t work.

There is no problem with other USB devices, and the ext. harddrive works well on other computers.

The brand of the ext. harddisk case is Skymaster and the interface is from the same manufacturer.

Has some1 encountered the same problem?

Better yet, have you been able to solve it?
