USB Ports

I have trying to install three diffrent scanners
on to winme computers.
The computers have worked with a USB zip, microtek scanner, USB modem.
Whenever I start the computers with the scanners plug in I get an win blue screen, that windows has shutdown to protect my computer.

The scanners Cannon, and Microtek 4800.
