USB Printing Probs…

by solja . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

Ok, I just want to get some ideas here as it’s 11:30pm and I can’t seem to brainstorm too easily on my own…

I have an Epson Photo Stylus 1270 printer connected via USB (parallel port is occupied)to an Abit KT7/T-bird 750 running Windows 2000 Pro. Now, this problem I’m having also occurred on this same machine while it was running Windows ME. The problem is, I’ll send something to print, it’ll be received by the printer, the printer will begin printing, and at some random point, the printerstops and a dialog pops up saying a communications error has occurred, check to make sure the printer’s on, blah blah blah. Everything’s on and working. At this point, the print monitor will freeze, I can’t cancel the print job, and I have to rebootto get rid of it. I also have to restart the print.

I’m not sure where to begin on this. I have to open up my computer anyhow as the floppy drive has also started to not work correctly, not sure if that’s related or not. Any ideas on what to look for? The printer worked fine before and I can’t seem to trace this behavior to any one event.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:
I thought the problem might be related to Win ME, so I uninstalled programs I knew I’d added since the computer/printer started doing this. It kept on, so I reinstalled ME. That didn’t help, so I formatted my drive and started clean with Win 2K. I got the most up-to-date drivers and everything, tried to print, and it happened again.

Any help/suggestions would be great. Thanks!
