USB problems

We have a Sony SR27 notebook which has one USB port on it. I have added a USB hub to it so I can hook up my printer, Palm and mouse when it is used as a desk top. When the computer sits in the on position for a while whith no use the mouse and Palm Hot Sync loose their ability to work. The only way to get them working again is to reboot to computer. What may be the problem?
