USB Scanner on WIN ME

Here is the issue. Before I went buck crazy and decided to add too many things to my computer. My USB (Flatbed) Scanner worked nicely. Upon buying more peripherials(sp) that required USB I also bought a USB hub. (Still worked) Upon installing a negative scanner the flatbed stopped working and would just lock up. I have tried removing everything but the scanner itself, and removing and reinstalling the drivers (updates as well) What am I missing here? The scanner wants to scan (light comes on) but it just sits there and locks up my computer…
