User and password disappearing

My computer intermittently stops saving usernames and passwords that I’ve asked it to save for webpages. When the pop-up window shows up (I’m using IE 5.5), the text fields are blank. I re-input the username and password and click on the save box and the next time I go to the site, the fields are blank again. But then in a week or so, it will start saving them again.
