I have a P III – 550 MHz with 512 kB cache. I have installed on my PC 256 MB RAM. However, the speed of my PC is really slow on numerous occasions. When I press Alt+Ctrl+Del, I have in the list of programs so many programs which I did not voluntarily start.
In the startup list in the msconfig.exe utility, I find many exe’s. But I dont know the significance or importance of many of these files as they have strange names. ALso, among the many files are the many exe’s belonging to Norton System works 2000.
Many a time, my computer gets stuck up, ie almost hangs up and the ominous blue screen pops up and the PC is not able to overcome the overload.
I want to know what is causing such overload to the PC, how do I lessen the load. How do I know which programs are required for regular performance of the PC and which programs are uselessly eating away my RAM ? Basically I want my PC to be fast enough and seem like I have 256 MB RAM and not like a 32 MB.
