Video Glitches

My video screen splits on occasion. It is impossible to navigate. I must reboot and loose data to return to normal operation. How can I correct this. Is it a glitch in my on-board video? Should I disable it and install a good video card? Or do I need to add more memory to my 64megs already installed?
