I run XP Pro on IBM 400MGZ, 256M+ RAM, 32bit sound, and 16M Voodoo 2 3000 graphics card. I am using the drivers from 1.08.00-XP that gives:
Voodoo3/4/5(tm) Driver kit: 1.08.00-XP
Voodoos Win2k(r) Display Driver and Miniport: 5.00.2195.0232
Glide(tm) 2.X Driver: 2.61.00.0674 XP
Glide 3.X Driver: 3.10.00.0674 XP
OpenGL(r) Driver Version: 1.0.0.0761 ICD XP
Even on a fresh copy of XP and these drivers, my graphics will not work correctly. Let me give you examples:
– Jedi Knights II – Cannot see the opening credits. They are a bunch of squirmy lines.
Sky is messed up on level 1. A bunch of polygons.
– Bourderon 3D Home Architect- crashes machine and reboots when I execute doing the home in 3D view (yet works fine on a computer with a generic VGA card).
– Star Trek Armada II – Game will crash with a “Fatal error in Direct 3D. Reboot.”
– Grand Theft Auto III – Game is very light and all words are white boxes.
When I use Ontrack System Suite 4’s diagnostic tool (the only hardware tool I have), get only one failed error on my card. It is a test that shows some roller blades doing something, but I get nothing but wavy lines (like when your resolution can not be friends with your monitor). The error result is:
3DAnimation Test
Started at 9:58:41 PM on 6/26/2002
Ended at 9:58:57 PM on 6/26/2002
Wider Animation: False
Signature Value: 0
This test failed. This may have been due to
A DAC (Digital/Analog Converter) problem
The color guns may be misaligned
An element in the LCD panel may be burned out
All other tests pass:
Color Depth: 32
Display Initial Test Message: False
Video RAM Test
Line Drawing Test
Polygon Drawing Test
BitBlock Transfer Test
Color Palette Test
VGA Palette Test
Color Separation Test
3D Effects Test
Short of a faster processor and several $$$ for a new video card, what can I do? What could be wrong?
