W2K and W98 Direct Cable Connection

by iain z-uk . Updated 25 years ago

Problem I have a large amount of data on my home PC (running Win 2000 Pro) that I want to transfer to my laptop (running win 98). I tried to setup a direct cable connection using a parallel cable I have run the wizard on both machines. I try to connect (using the 2k machine as host and 98 machine as guest) it then says ‘user name and password verified’, then changes to connected ‘connected via parallel cable on lpt1’, after that it says ‘ looking for shared folders’. Then another window popsup over that one and says it was unable to display the shared folders on host and asks for the host computers name. Inputting this doesn’t work, both machines are on the same workgroup with different names. I looked on the Microsoft Knowledge Baseand it said that a certain file was missing or corrupt, I got another copy of it and retried it but to no avail, if anyone can help my appreciation would be endless.
