W2K will not install

by tmc_ca . Updated 25 years, 5 months ago

W2K Professional will not install on my Quantum Fireball CR4320 after partitioning and formatting with Win98.

History: Firstly, a few months ago I ran Fdisk (win98) and enabled large disk support, partitioned and formatted the drive and left it. The other day I attempted a W2K install. The W2k files copied to the drive ok, then rebooted and selected W2k upgrade (default). Then the install stopped at “Setup is starting Windows 2000”. I immediately ran Fdisk (win98) again to delete the existing partition and this time did not enable large disk support; partitioned and formatted again. W2K prof. again stopped at the same place.

Problem: By enabling large disk support, has this done something to my hard drive, as previous to thisinstall I successfully installed W2K prof. to another drive after running Fdisk from MSDOS v.6.22 to partition and format.

Thanks for your help.
Terry
