Websites in the Orbit

I had a funny experience.
I made a website on fortunecity.com.
I forgot my password.
I lost control over my website.
The Host could not help.
How does one control this.

I am sure, in this age of survival of the fittest – many websites will be in the orbit upon whom the owners would not have control. How does one control them?
