What does it take to build a server?

What kind of hardware (motherboard, etc.) would you need to build a server and where would you find it? I was going to use the low end Windows 2000 Server, the one priced between $600-800. Have 3 60GB Maxtor IDE hard drives and a 1394 card with 2 80GB Maxtor Drives attached. I’ve built my own computer and I wanted to know if building a server is much harder.
