What’s up with My Windows Media Player??

Anyone know why my media player either sounds like the chipmunks or really slow? Real player plays everything just fine. Would dsl have any kind of setting i am missing? This happened after I upgraded mb to gigabyte and amd athlon processor. I have the 7.1 wmp. Also the most current bios and drivers. Help!!!!!
